Trip to Thailand through Thai Flavours

I have a confession to make, I am an urbanspoon addict. I downloaded the app on my iphone and when I have nothing else better to do with my life, I search for restaurants that I have yet to try. My friend and I were searching for a thai restaurant, and we stumbled across Thai Flavours. Located in Lewis Estates (near River Cree Casino Resort), we decided to hit up this location and give it a try. The restaurant is quite small and cozy, upon walking in you know you are in a Thai restaurant by the decorations they have up on the wall. Also, I love the tropical theme this restaurant has! Those colourful table cloths are really something else haha! Thai Flavours also has daily specials which is a nice bonus and it can be found on their website. We went on a Tuesday, and the spring rolls were their special of the day (4 for $6).

We decided to try 1 order of spring rolls, 2 beef and 2 pork. I have never tried beef filling before so it was something I was looking forward to tasting. We ordered tom yum soup (at my request because I absolutely love that stuff), a curry dish (Gang Leang) and one classic noodle dish (Pad Thai).

I have been to a couple of Thai restaurants prior to this one and so far they have all been pleasant experiences! I was expecting this one to be on par with the rest. The first to come out were the spring rolls. Nothing special about the spring rolls, but that was expected. The pork spring rolls tasted like normal Chinese or Vietnamese ones. The beef ones was served with a sweet mustard like sauce? It was definitely an interesting combination of ground beef and spices, but both of us preferred the classic pork one more haha.
Next came the soup! Compared to the other restaurants, this one is a lot lighter in terms of colour, spices and ingredients as Syphay's. At Syphay's just the colour of the soup alone gave the impression of it being super dense in flavour. This one still had the basic tom yum flavour, but lacked terms of giving off that spice kick. A good starting appetizer though, that teased our palettes for the main dishes.
Being half Malaysian, we are known for our love of Curry! The Gang Leang is a yellow curry, containing chicken, broccoli, snap peas, red pepper, carrots and more. The thing I love about Thai curry is how small the portion is but how many different ingredients are included in making the dish. Yum yum! It was the perfect spiciness, and the coconut milk was present but not overwhelming. This is my favorite of the night!
Ending it off with Pad Thai! Something about pad thai, whether it may be the rice noodles, this classic simple dish has always been a favorite. Great portion size and the taste was a classic. Nothing amazing that made it stand out from any other restaurant, but it certainly satisfied my palate.

Thai Flavours is a great restaurant that will satisfy your cravings for authentic Thai food! Quick service, broad selection of dishes to choose from, huge portions and convenient location makes this place our go to Thai restaurant on a busy day.
